The Parish of Bedwellty and New Tredegar
helping transform neighbourhoods, becoming more like Christ
If you or someone close to you is ill at home or in hospital and would appreciate a visit from a member of our pastoral team, please let us know. We will then get in touch with you and arrange a suitable time.
Christenings in the Parish usually take place on the first or second Sunday of the month at 11.45 a.m. If you would like to arrange a Christening for your child, contact us at the parish office by phone (01443 829555) or email (email@example.com) and we will arrange a time to meet with you.. It will usually be 3-6 months before the Christening service, depending on what is already in the diary. During this time we will encourage you to attend worship as a family to help you think through the promises that you will be making on behalf of your child.
St Sannan’s Church, Bedwellty and St Dingat’s Church, New Tredegar are both popular locations for weddings. If you are considering getting married in church, contact us at the parish office by phone (01443 829555) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will arrange a time to meet with you. We will then be able to take your details and give you information about eligibility to get married in the Parish, as well as the current schedule of fees. Every year in March or April, we usually run two preparation evenings for all the couples preparing to get married. These are always enjoyable occasions, giving you the opportunity to sort out the details of your wedding service and have some relaxed time out as a couple as you prepare for the big day.
Apart from the shock and grief of bereavement, the practicalities of making arrangements for a funeral can feel quite overwhelming. We would like to do whatever we can to help. If you would like a church funeral for your loved one, please let the undertaker know as soon as possible, and they will contact us to arrange a time for the service. Usually it will take about a week to organise a funeral, but this can be longer depending on whether there is to be a post mortem and other factors like the availability at the cemetery or crematorium.
Twice a year in the Parish, we arrange a special memorial service for those who have recently lost loved ones. Adults and children are most welcome to attend. Please let us know if you would like details of the next memorial service.
The ancient Churchyard at Bedwellty is now closed to new burials – these would take place in the Council Cemetry. Occasionally it is possible to reopen a grave in Cae Blodau (the part of the Churchyard directly opposite the Church on the other side of the road) for a second burial to take place in an existing family grave, or to arrange the burial of cremated remains in existing graves in the Churchyard.
All burial registers are now held at Gwent Archives in Ebbw Vale, so enquiries about family records to be directed there. Website: http://www.gwentarchives.gov.uk/ Tel. 01495 353363.
There are currently no new plots available in the Garden of Remembrance at St Dingat’s Church in New Tredegar, but we can arrange for an internment in an existing family plot. For enquiries about the Garden of Remembrance, please contact the Parish Office by phone at 01443 829555 or by using the email form on our Contact page.
For well over a thousand years, visitors and pilgrims have made their way to the ancient hill-top church at Bedwellty seeking prayer, healing and refreshment before continuing on their way. The focus of the Bedwellty Pilgrim Project is to sustain and resource this precious tradition by:
- Offering spiritual accompaniment and opportunities for contemplative prayer and meditation
- Careful maintenance and curation of the treasures of this place
- Developing guides and resources for pilgrims of all ages who visit the church
